Our Approach to Inclusion
At Boldmere Resource Base we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and flourish. We work closely with children, families and external agencies to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where every pupil can achieve their very best — at their own pace and in their own way.
Our Provision
The Resource Base currently has three classes supporting primary aged children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition. Our curriculum is bespoke — built around the primary needs of each child and evolving alongside them as they develop. The Resource Base curriculum has two core strands, Intervention and Integration, with the ultimate goal of enabling each child to access part or all of the curriculum successfully within the mainstream school.
Specialist Teaching Staff
Our passionate and dedicated teaching team provide a bespoke curriculum tailored to meet each child’s needs, working closely with families and external agencies throughout.
Specialist Facilities
Children in the Resource Base have access to a sensory room and three specific outdoor areas designed to support their sensory needs — creating a calm, structured and stimulating environment.
Expert Support Partners
We work with our own speech and language therapist and a specialist sports coach from West Bromwich Albion, providing children with enriching opportunities beyond the classroom.
- Admissions to the Resource Base are entirely separate from the main school and are made through Birmingham’s SENAR team
- Every child’s integration timetable is individual to them, beginning with their own point of interest
- Our curriculum evolves alongside the children and the expansion of the cohort
Curriculum Implementation
At Boldmere Resource Base our curriculum is delivered through two clear strands:
We use a range of structured intervention programmes to meet the specific needs of our pupils. These include:
These interventions have been recommended by external agencies including the Educational Psychology Service, the Communication and Autism Team and Speech and Language Therapists.
Everyday interventions include visual timetables, Makaton, now and next boards, task boards, sensory and movement breaks, sensory toys, individual workstations, pre and post tutoring, co-operation games, unstructured time choices and independent life skills.
Integration timetables are individual to each child. Every transition begins with a point of interest for the child — such as Science, Art or PE. From there the child develops and builds relationships with mainstream peers and staff. Once understanding and communication have been established, the Resource Base pupil can progressively integrate into their mainstream class, applying the strategies and learning developed one-to-one or in small groups within the Resource Base.
Alongside the integration timetable, regular meetings take place between Resource Base staff, mainstream staff, parents and the child.
